The CalOptima Scholarship for the Chapman University Physician Assistant Program provides a two-year, full-tuition scholarship to students admitted into the PA program. Eligibility requirements include:
- Primary residence in Orange County
- Demonstrated financial need as determined by falling within the low income category published by the 2024 State Income Limits for Orange County.
- Commitment to work as a PA the first five years of clinical practice in an Orange County healthcare facility serving CalOptima members
- Willingness to become a clinical educator for the Chapman University PA program by the third year as an employed PA
The scholarship is tuition only. It does not cover admission deposit, living expenses, books and supplies, or other incidentals.
The deadline for the CalOptima scholarship application is September 1, 2025.

The Simon Scholar PA Program is a unique opportunity for qualified individuals who aspire to earn their master’s in Medical Science degree (MMS) at the Chapman University Physician Assistant program. This scholarship program is designed to support first-generation college students who have overcome personal and economic adversity. The scholarship is intended to enable recipients to graduate with little or no debt following two years of study. Ten scholarship awards will be awarded this year.
The scholarship awardees will be selected based on the following criteria:
- History of economic adversity and personal adversity
- Undeserved background
- First-generation college student
- Demonstrated leadership
- History of academic excellence and achievement
- Ongoing community service
- Plans to apply to the Chapman University PA Studies Program for the class beginning in January 2025.
- Primary residence in Orange County or San Diego County
- Willing to commit to clinical practice for three years as a PA in Orange County or San Diego County post-graduation.
The deadline for the scholarship application is August 30, 2025.
